The night dragged on, and the social media firestorm raged.
After Megan got back to her rental, she indulged in a long, hot bath. She slipped into a nightgown and stepped onto the balcony for some air.
The May night carried a light, pleasant breeze.
Her phone lit with a new message. "This is Miles. Here's my number. Save it."
She could practically picture him at a desk, typing it out. He really was a bit old-school.
But that wasn't the message she was waiting for.
A few minutes later, her phone buzzed again. It was Yvette calling.
Megan thought about letting it ring, but ultimately gave in, answering, "What is it?"
"Megan, Howard's sick!" Yvette snapped. "He's alone at the hospital. Are you really not checking on him?"
Megan frowned. "He didn't tell you?"
"Tell me what?" Yvette fumed.
Megan paused, thinking of Ronald.
"Nothing," she finally said.
Perhaps Howard needed a few days to tell his family they were divorced. In their failed marriage, Ronald had been the only one
