Chapter 2164
Elowen could commune with the Divine Power and perceive the presence of all living beings.
No matter where Lucan was in the past, she could always pinpoint his presence in an instant. But now, she could no longer sense him.
After the fleeting moment of loss, Elowen's eyes gradually darkened. Then, her figure vanished before Shannon's eyes.
Shannon's heart clenched at the sight, but she didn't immediately follow. Instead, her gaze swept across the three dying Doomscourges sprawled before her.
Ignoring the damage to her divine soul, she formed a mudra with one hand and manifested three tails.
The three tails shot forward without hesitation and pierced through the chests of the beasts, nailing them to the ground. The beasts let out low, anguished cries, but the sounds were barely audible.
Only when she was certain they could stir no further did the fox tails behind Shannon slowly dissipate. Yet, the tails impaling the beasts transformed into stone pillars and pinned them in place.
With that done, Shannon's divine soul flickered even more weakly, but she couldn't be bothered. She drew her finger through the void, and the unique supernatural energy of a nine-tailed fox tore a spatial rift.
Following Elowen's lingering presence, she stepped into the rift and emerged in the royal city of Celestria.
As her foot touched down and the royal city came into view, Shannon was stunned.
When she'd left just months ago, the royal city had been a thriving scene. Delicate rooftops, wide streets, and the joyful send-off from a sea of commoners were still etched in her memory.
But now, the royal city was in ruins. The city walls had fallen, and blood had dyed the rivers red.
Within the city, things fared little better. Many buildings had been scorched to the ground. Though not as littered with corpses as the battlefield outside, the stone streets stained with blood were enough to reveal the ordeal that had swept through this place.
Shannon didn't linger and followed Elowen's presence through the air. Before she could reach the latter, Benjamin appeared before her.
He still wore his armor, now caked with blood and grime. His once-proud posture was replaced by a weariness never seen before.
More importantly, the golden light on his body had faded.
A dreadful premonition struck Shannon. Without further delay, she soon found Elowen at the royal altar, where she and Benjamin had prayed to the sky.
Now, Elowen stood there with a lifeless golden dragon lying at her feet. It was Lucan's true form.
His massive body sprawled across the altar, and his once-dazzling golden scales were dulled to a lifeless grey.
What caught Shannon's attention most were the dozens of blades stabbed into Lucan's true form. Every blade carried human presence and malice.
Though she knew none of these weapons were the true cause of Lucan's fall, and they weren't even capable of wounding him, it must have hurt terribly when the blades pierced him.
Beside him, Velquin sat in his phoenix form with feathers strewn around him. He wept softly as faint sobs escaped his beak.
Perhaps irritated by the sound, Elowen flicked her tail and flung him away. Then, she stepped forward and gently cradled the dragon's head.
Her remaining seven tails unfurled and wrapped around it before pure supernatural light flowed from her body.
Shannon watched as the supernatural light slowly seeped into Lucan's form and vanished without the slightest change. Lucan's true form was completely silent and gave no response, unlike before.
A crushing weight settled on Shannon's chest. Her heart felt so stuffed that she could barely speak.
She'd never imagined something like this to happen to Lucan. How could it? He was supposed to be…
"Hunder and Vlad appeared in the royal city. Lucan killed Hundar," Benjamin said, walking up to her. Then, he slowly recapped everything that had happened in the past three days.
…
Originally, with Benjamin and Lucan holding the line, it was only a matter of time before they handled Hundar and quelled the mess in the royal city, and they'd done it.
