The lab wouldn't have existed without the boss' backing or the investors he'd brought in. At the time, he'd done it mostly for Elise. And yet…
"Don't overthink it," said Henry as he started the car. "Boss isn't the kind to hold grudges."
She tried to pull the seatbelt with her right hand but didn't dare use too much force, so she steadied it with her left. She could feel some strength returning to her right hand.
The wound had healed, and as long as she didn't grip tightly, it didn't hurt anymore.
Henry glanced at her and only started the engine once she'd fastened her seatbelt. A faint smile tugged at her lips.

Elise's ex-boss had booked a small restaurant tucked away in an alley. It was clean, simple, and quiet—the kind of place that suited him, avoiding unnecessary attention.
Yet the food here was excellent. Elise had been there with him a few times in the past.
When they arrived at the private room, she clutched the hem of her shirt, palms already damp with sweat.
