Elise slipped off her shoe covers while holding onto the doorframe and said, "I have something to do."
Lucas didn't understand why she'd been so busy lately.
"Will you come back tomorrow night?"
"I won't," Elise replied flatly. She tossed the covers into the bin outside and turned to leave.
Lucas's expression faltered. He was about to chase after her when a tall figure stepped past him.
Elise looked down at her phone to call a ride. While she was distracted, she ran into a wall of muscle and was forced to stop.
She looked up into Samuel's cold eyes. She had no idea why he was blocking her path, and she didn't care to find out.
On second thought, she decided to bring up the herb field with him.
"Mr. Holt, don't you think you're being petty? Last night was my fault, so just take it out on me. Don't drag innocent people into this. It's beneath you."
Samuel's gaze turned even colder. "You want to keep working with Matthew's herb farm?"
Elise sensed a trap in his tone. "No."
