Soren's POV
I felt cold from head to toe after hearing Jon's reply. A depressing scene formed in my head of the weak and defenseless Leona surrounded by asylum patients. She fought back with all her might, but fainted from a whipping from behind, right as she was about to be rescued.
Pain ripped through my chest.
"Who did it?"
"You already guessed it," Jon cut me off. "You can't blame them, though. Have you no idea that the treatment she received in the last three years was the consequence of your attitude—your lack of interest—toward her?"
Dazed and confused, I argued with Jon. "But she was at the asylum of the Larkspur pack. She was at home!"
Leonard couldn't have had the heart to see his once-beloved daughter bullied. Was his care and affection for Leona just for show?
That was impossible! That would have made a joke out of the efforts he poured into Leona.
