Elsie was kinda kicking herself—she really shouldn’t have blurted out anything about the new father-in-law situation.
William's eyes gleamed with growing amusement as he pinched her cheek. “Seriously? Silly girl.”
“I’m backing you up, not trying to butter them up. As long as I’m around, nobody’s gonna mess with you.”
He walked her to her door and then stopped, faking a serious tone. “Permission to enter?”
Before Elsie could even answer, the cat came tripping out, meowing like it was rolling out a red carpet.
“Well, since your most important family member invited me in, guess I can’t refuse,” William stepped in smoothly.
Elsie just gave him a deadpan look. “You’re unbelievable.”
This cat was practically his spy at this point—without it, he probably wouldn’t even make it past the door.
He moved around like he'd lived there forever, grabbed a mask, and casually put it on. “Relax, I’m doing allergen shots. Just had one yesterday.”
