Back then, he used to complain about Leslie Green all the time—who’d have guessed he was trash-talking her to her face.
No idea what kind of expression she had when she saw those rants. Maybe she was already cursing him out in her head.
Now though, they were holding eye contact, and oddly enough, Leslie looked super calm. Graceful, even. Like she wasn’t bothered by any of that nonsense from before.
“Leslie, you’re actually cool with being my mentor?” Miles Ackerley asked, a bit hesitant.
Leslie chuckled. “Why wouldn’t I be? I’m your sister-in-law and now your mentor too. That means you’ve got to listen to me from now on, no arguments. Sounds like a win to me, so of course I’m up for it.”
Miles couldn’t hold back a laugh—but it tugged at his injury and made him wince.
“Master,” he said, grinning through the pain.
“Good disciple,” Leslie teased back, and gave his hair a quick ruffle.
She’d never been anyone’s mentor before. But in a different world, she did raise a pet.
