Jasper hurried to catch up, his voice soft and calm, without any trace of urgency.
"Alright, Fiona, enough of this. Let me take you back. It's my fault. But... feelings can't be forced, you know?"
Before she could respond, a car sped toward them. Jasper reacted instantly, pulling Fiona to safety and shielding her with his arm as he guided her to the side.
Fiona stumbled slightly and ended up falling into Jasper's arms. Her tears soaked into the fabric of his neatly-pressed trench coat.
Jasper froze for a moment, surprised, but quickly stepped back, creating some space between them. Ever the gentleman, he took out a tissue and handed it to her. "Here, wipe your tears. People are staring."
"Let them stare! It’s not like it’ll kill them or anything," Fiona retorted, her voice tinged with frustration. Despite her words, she obediently climbed into the car.
Deep down, she knew Jasper didn’t like girls who threw tantrums for no reason or acted spoiled.
