The next morning, as soon as the sky brightened, Perseus fixed himself a quick breakfast and even brought some over to Phanes. Then, he made his final preparations to leave Ysle Springs.
"Are you really leaving?" Phanes asked, completely baffled.
Like Ramona, she had thought Perseus was simply throwing a tantrum—acting immature because he was upset at being manipulated. She'd assumed he'd sulk for a while and then come to terms with the truth.
But it seemed Perseus truly meant to walk away.
"Why shouldn't I?" he replied flatly. "Am I supposed to hang around Ysle Springs and listen to your stories about dragons and how you cared for them? Are you going to tell me next that you fed them the fools who trusted you before being betrayed?"
Perseus let out a cold chuckle, shook his head, and turned to leave.
