Claire's POV
The tension around the pool was suffocating, with dozens of eyes watching our every move. Adrian's face was flushed with indignation as he continued to defend Nicole, his voice rising above the murmur of the crowd.
"This is ridiculous," he declared, gesturing toward me with barely concealed contempt. "Claire has always been dramatic. She's probably making this whole thing up."
Something bitter and sharp twisted in my chest at his words. Even after everything—after three years together, after knowing me better than almost anyone—he was ready to paint me as a liar. I couldn't help the mocking laugh that escaped me.
