At the military district hospital, Joshua had just stepped into the room when a vase came flying straight at him.
"You ungrateful piece of trash. If I hadn't seen it on the news, I'd still have no idea about the filthy things between you and Melissa. My grandson died because of the two of you!
"If you hadn't driven Lexi away, none of this would have happened. Your father would still be alive. Even his funeral turned into a public spectacle because of you."
Blood dripped from Joshua's forehead as he froze in place, not even knowing how to respond. Eleanor glared at him through tears, her sobs wracking her body.
"I should've died with your father back then. Living like this is worse than death. Every breath hurts more than if you'd just killed me."
Every word cut into Joshua like a knife, carving deep into his chest. He asked himself the same question over and over, "How did everything end up like this?"
