Elena’s POV
“What nonsense are you spewing, Elena?” Mark snapped, his voice slicing through the hall.
The room went quiet. A few guests whispered to one another, some amused, some curious. I stood my ground, the necklace dangling between my fingers, its sparkle catching the chandelier light.
“That necklace is authentic,” Mark continued sharply. “I spent nearly a million dollars on it. It was a birthday gift for my mother.” His eyes darkened as they locked on me. “Someone like you wouldn’t recognize real jewelry if it hit you in the face.”
Bella stepped forward, looping her arm around his. “Exactly,” she said coldly. “People in our circle don’t wear counterfeits. This is just your pathetic attempt to cause a scene.” Her lips curled. “You’ve embarrassed us long enough. I should have you dragged out.”
I smiled—slow, calm, unbothered. “Relax, Bella. No need to summon security.” I lifted my chin slightly. “I’m a guest here. Properly invited.”
