Chapter 93 Misleading
The moment Cameron pushed open the hospital room door, the sting of disinfectant rushed up to meet him.
A nurse on rounds had found Macie just in time, before things could get worse.
Macie was lying in bed in a blue-and-white hospital gown. A thick bandage was wrapped around her forehead. Her face was ghost-pale, and her lips were drained of color. She looked so fragile it felt like a touch might shatter her.
When she heard the door open, she turned her head. The moment her eyes met his, they filled with tears.
"Cam..."
Cameron crossed the room in a few strides. His brow furrowed before he even knew it.
As Macie tried to sit up, tears slid down her cheeks. "Cam, I'm sorry… I got you in trouble again."
She reached for his sleeve, but her hand fell short, too weak to hold on. "I saw… what's online. I know Audrey… never liked me. I just didn't think she'd go this far…"
Her words broke into sobs.
