I looked into Noah’s gray eyes. They were deep and difficult to read, filled with emotions I couldn’t fully understand. For a moment, it felt as if I was standing too close to the edge of the ocean, where a single wave could easily pull me under.
I forced myself to look away first.
“Noah, next time if you want to see Hannah, you should tell me in advance,” I said. “That way I can arrange a time for the two of you.”
My voice sounded calmer than I actually felt.
Noah was quiet for a moment before he finally spoke.
“I’m going abroad for a while,” he said quietly. “I don’t know when I’ll be back.”
I paused, stunned by his words.
Before I could react, Noah suddenly reached out and wrapped an arm around my waist, pulling me into his embrace. His chin rested against my shoulder and neck as he held me tightly, as if he was afraid that if he loosened his grip even slightly, I would disappear.
