I packed a small suitcase for a three-day business trip to San Diego. Business trips were nothing unusual for an advertising account manager, especially when the client wasn’t based in San Francisco. Sometimes clients made the trip to our office for meetings, but more often than not, we went to them—particularly when the client was a major one.
The only difference this time was that I was leaving behind two patients at home.
“Are you sure it’s okay for me to leave you here?” I asked Margareth, hesitation creeping into my voice. “I can hire a temporary caregiver to help take care of you and Hannah if you need one.”
Her eyesight had improved significantly, but she still had to be mindful of her diet and avoid pushing herself too hard. I couldn’t help worrying, no matter how much she insisted she was fine.
Margareth waved a hand dismissively. “I’m fine now, and Hannah is a well-behaved kid. We can manage even if you’re gone for a month.”
