Chapter 11

Sara made some dishes during noon and shared some with Cora. It also gave her a chance to return the machete to her. After lunch, she took a nap and woke up in the evening. She had been sleeping a lot lately. As she turned the faucet on, she splashed some water over her face and instantly felt more refreshed. A while later, Rebecca came in with a small bucket. "Sara, you're home, aren't you?" she asked as soon as she walked through the door. Sara hurriedly came out and greeted, "Rebecca, you're here. Come in and take a seat." "Daniel caught a lot of fish today, and I came here to give you some of it." Rebecca was enthusiastic and friendly. There were seven to eight fishes of different sizes in her bucket. "Rebecca, you should've saved it for the kids," Sara replied. "I have more at my place. Get a bucket or basin. I'll pour them in it, and you can keep it alive for a few days. If you can't finish them today, you'll still be able to eat them fresh tomorrow." "I appreciate it, Rebecca," Sara said after getting a bucket. "No thanks necessary. Well, I'll leave you to it then. Bye." That night, Sara made soup with two of the fishes Rebecca gave. Their freshness gave the soup a rich and sweet taste. After eating, Sara lay on her bed. It was so quiet that she missed Spencer a little. She wondered what he was doing and if work was going well for him. With that thought, Sara pulled out her phone. However, there were no texts or calls. Finally, she mustered up her courage and sent Spencer a text. "Spencer, how's work? You have to take care of yourself and drink less liquor." She wrote a lot in her text. She wanted to share with him about her life in the village, and how her neighbor had given her plenty of home-grown vegetables. However, she deleted and rewrote her message so many times that she ultimately decided to just send him a brief text. After that, she stared at her phone for 20 minutes. However, she never got a reply from him. Even before sleeping, Sara still couldn't let it go. She pulled out her phone and checked again, but there was still no response from Spencer. Feeling a little dejected, she lay down on her side and rubbed her belly. "My baby, Dad must've been busy. That's why he didn't see my text and reply me, right? "When he gets back from his work trip, we'll tell him about you. Okay?" Soon, Sara felt tired and dozed off. … Back in Jeritho, Luke was lying on a massage chair in Jetstream Kriton Group's CEO's office. Sighing, he fell into deep thought. Spencer, Zayn, and Hans weren't here, and Finn was off doing God-knows-what. Not to mention, Sara was in her hometown too. Bored, Luke wearily sighed again. As it happened, Esther Jefferson, Spencer's main assistant, opened the door and came in. Luke had been coming to Spencer's office for three whole days, and he had always come on time. He'd asked Esther to bring him lunch in the CEO's office at noon, and he would get off work with everyone else. Luke sighed again when he saw that it was Esther. Meanwhile, Esther found it a little amusing when she saw the look on his face. Luke was the most approachable man among his fellow CEO friends, and he didn't throw his weight around. He'd even crack jokes with everyone most of the time. Everyone in the company, regardless of their positions, would only talk about things outside of work with him. Esther immediately asked, "Mr. Yaeger, what's wrong? You've sighed for no less than ten times this morning." "I'm bored out of my mind. My brothers aren't here, and Sara isn't here either. Nobody has time for me." Esther was used to such ramblings from Luke. "You can always look for Mr. Tiernan's cousin or Mr. Quinton's sister," she suggested. Spencer's cousin was Wanda Tiernan. She was a junior student at Aser College. She was somewhat of a quirky oddball—pure, naive, and always ready to lend a helping hand. Hans' younger sister, Charlotte Quinton, was a senior student. She was interning under the tutelage of Finn. She loved writing novels in her free time, and she aspired to be a movie screenwriter. Now, she was something of an assistant. She'd started her career at the most basic level and worked odd jobs with no special treatment. So, she was as busy as a bee every day. "I guess those two are my best bets," Luke said as he got up from the massage chair. Then, he grabbed his coat and got ready to leave. "Mr. Yaeger, should I still get lunch for you?" Esther asked. "It's fine. I'll hang out with Wanda and Charlotte." Then, he left. He pulled out his phone as he walked and immediately created a chat group with the both of them in it. "Wanda, Charlotte, let's hang out. I'll show you guys some fun places tonight." Luke tagged the both of them in the chat group. "Where's Spencer?" Wanda replied to his text at once. "He's on a work trip, and he'll only get back God-knows-when. We're going to Hans' bar tonight. So, get off your butts and meet me in front of the bar." "Where's Sara? We should invite her." Charlotte also joined the conversation. "Sara went back to her hometown. She's not in Jeritho." Luke treated Wanda and Charlotte as if they were his own younger sisters. If he had the time, he would always take them out to have fun. "I'm still on campus. It'll take me an hour to get to Hans' bar." Wanda didn't have any class in the afternoon, and it was a Friday. Initially, she'd planned to get back to the dormitory and catch up on some dramas, but Luke had asked them to hang out at a bar. Naturally, she lost interest in staying in her dormitory. "I'm tied up. I need to get to the film set in the afternoon. By the time they wrap up, it'll be past seven," Charlotte replied. After all, she was just an assistant, and her mentor was particularly strict. There was no way she could slack off. "I'll take Wanda to lunch before we hit the bar then. Do you need me to arrange a driver to pick you up?" Luke recalled that he hadn't had lunch yet. So, he intended to get Wanda and grab some bites with her before they went to the bar. They were ready to go anytime, but the bar wouldn't be open until evening. But the timing would be just right for Charlotte to come over. "It's okay, Luke. I'll get there in a cab once I'm done." Charlotte couldn't be sure of when filming would wrap up, so it would be easier for her to hail a cab. "That works for me. "Wanda, I'll pick you up on campus," Luke said. Now that the arrangement had been made, the conversation was over. Luke then drove his sports car and made his way to Aser College. He parked his flashy car outside Wanda's dormitory, got out, and leaned on it as he called her. Not only did he turn heads, but a crowd had also started to gather around him. Wanda was startled when she got his call. Then, she immediately sprinted to the window and looked outside. With Luke's over-the-top character, he would definitely raise attention when he picked her up. She hurriedly said into the phone, "Luke, park your car at the gates. I'll be right over." "Why? I'm already outside your dormitory. Just come out, and we'll leave immediately. Why do things the hard way?" Luke was completely clueless as to him being the reason the college students were gathering around. Wanda replied, "Luke, you parked your flashy car outside my dormitory and leaned on it. Take a look around you and see how many people are looking at you now. "If I go down now, everyone's going to think that I have a rich guy for a sugar daddy or something. Rumors are deadly, Luke, and I want to graduate in one piece." Wanda knew that she would make the headlines on the campus forum if she got into his car while everyone watched. They would undoubtedly spread rumors about her having a sugar daddy. "But I brought my most modest car," Luke innocently protested. "Hurry up and drive it away. I'll be there in no time." Wanda urged nonetheless. "Fine, fine. I'll wait for you about 160 feet away from the gates." Then, he drove out of campus. He had just parked his car when he saw Wanda coming out in full disguise and sneaking into his car. "That's a bit much." Luke didn't understand her at all. "It pays to be cautious. Let's go, Luke. What are we having for lunch?" Wanda asked. "I'm taking you to a restaurant with private home cooking. Finn and I went there last time, and their food is quite delicious. You're going to get a taste of it today," Luke said as he drove. He knew his stuff when it came to food. He had too much time on his hands, after all. So, he had been bringing Wanda and Charlotte with him all over the city, looking for delicious food. "Oh, my God. Luke, you're the best!" Wanda was so excited that she would've hugged him if he hadn't been driving. If Luke said that it was good, then the food must truly be divine. For a foodie at heart like Wanda, the happiest thing she could do was to go food-hunting with him.
