As Sara turned around, she saw Spencer standing behind her. The two of them stood a few feet away, just looking at each other. Neither spoke nor moved.
After everything she had just been through—the fear, the relief—seeing Spencer now felt like a lifetime in a single glance.
Spencer finally stepped forward, stopping just three feet away from her.
"Spencer," she said, since he didn't seem like he was going to speak again.
"Are you still not feeling well?" she asked, a little nervous. She didn't know why he was at the hospital, and it reminded her that he had mentioned having a cold the last time they spoke.
Was he still not better? She hadn't realized she still cared enough to worry.
"No. I'm here to see a friend," Spencer replied. He wasn't about to admit he had come just to see her.
They were divorced. Divorced people could still be friends, right? He wasn't lying.
