Nancy had been trying to reach Gideon all evening, but his phone went straight to voicemail.
Time crawled by, and darkness settled over the sky.
The food on the table had gone cold.
Ian's face darkened with worry.
Nancy furrowed her brow. "Maybe something happened to him…"
"Honey," Ian said. His voice was calm, but it was laced with barely contained anger. "Why is it that trouble always shows up at the worst possible moment? Nothing in this world happens by chance."
Gideon clearly wasn't worried about being late.
Freya frowned. "Ian, I don't think he's the type to be late like this."
"Then, we'll wait 15 more minutes. If he still doesn't show, we eat without him," Ian said firmly.
Nancy nodded reluctantly and kept sending him messages.
Every message vanished into the void. Her grip on the phone tightened unconsciously.
"Gideon, where are you?" she thought.
Fifteen minutes passed. Ian's expression was pitch black. "Let's eat. The food's cold anyway," he muttered, picking up
