Chapter 4
When Ryan saw Marcus, his face turned dark with fury.
"Marcus, was it you who convinced her to leave?" he demanded, his voice a low growl, thick with the fury of betrayal. "I considered you a friend, yet you tried to steal her away from me?"
He glanced at me, then at Grandma behind me. Realization dawned on him, and he turned back to me with a sneer.
"I was right about you all along. You're nothing but a shameless slut. What did Marcus give you that made you willing to give up a meal ticket like me?"
His words grew more vicious by the second, and his temper spiraled out of control.
I shook off his hand and spoke calmly. "Since you chased me all the way here, I can finally give you this long-overdue farewell. From now on, we are strangers. My life is none of your concern."
I turned around and slipped my arm through Marcus' in front of him.
"The afternoon you fled from our wedding, Marcus and I registered our marriage. He is officially my husband now."
