Rebecca crossed the room, taking Luca's hand in hers. "You're not doing nothing. Your contacts, your resources – they've been crucial to getting us this far. We're in this together, remember?"
As the days passed, their investigation continued. Rebecca found herself constantly on edge, jumping at every unexpected sound, scrutinizing every unfamiliar face she saw on the rare occasions she left the safehouse.
It was on one such outing, a quick trip to the grocery store for essentials, that Rebecca felt the weight of eyes upon her. As she hurried back to the car, arms laden with bags, she caught a glimpse of a figure watching her from across the street. By the time she looked again, they were gone, leaving her with a chill that had nothing to do with the cool autumn air.
