ELIZABETH'S POV
I stormed through the forest, my anger and frustration boiling over. I had had enough of Lance's mixed signals. One minute he was distant and cold, and the next, he was looking at me with a warmth that made my heart skip a beat.
“Elizabeth, wait.” I heard him call for me but I was too sad, angry and frustrated to stop or listen to him.
“Why are you so mad at me?” His voice was so close to me and when I turned around, he was close to me.
"Why?" I repeated, my voice rising. "You know exactly what's wrong. You've been sending me mixed signals for weeks, and I'm tired of it."
Lance's expression was calm, but I could see a flicker of emotion in his eyes. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said.
"Don't play dumb with me," I snapped. "I know you've been watching me, looking at me with... with feelings. But then you pull away and act like you don't care. It's confusing and hurtful." I stopped running.
