CHAPTER 60 HOLIDAY STRESS
The brightness of the little shining bulbs was visible in the living room as Jenna placed another ornament on the tree. She retreated to a distance and watched the way the ornaments reflected the light on the walls in a riot of colours. Charlie was sleeping beside her, with his paws tucked under him, his tail occasionally beating the floor.
“What do you think, buddy?” Jenna asked looking down at the scruffy terrier. “Are we starting to fest this place up?”
The sound that Charlie gave in response was a small woof and he continued to watch Jenna as she wandered about the room putting up Christmas decorations.
Suddenly the sound of Lily’s cries through the baby monitor jolted the atmosphere in the car. Jenna sighed, putting down the string of tinsel in her hands which she was going to hang.
“Duty calls,” she whispered and left the room to give Charlie a brief hug.
