My heart fluttered with unease. I'd always been invisible at work—what if he sat down? Wouldn't I instantly become the office's public enemy?
As I worried, Luke Jordan abruptly changed direction and took the empty seat at the table beside me.

A warmth stirred gently in my chest.

Just as I stepped out of the company gate, I saw Luke Jordan waving at me from a white sports car. I ran over, and before I could speak, he said, "Off to see a client? Come on, I'm going that way—let me give you a ride."
I knew he was lying, but I got in anyway.
Once inside, I chided him. "You're joining our company as general manager—why didn't you tell me?"
"What for?" Luke drove steadily, eyes on the road, yet a faint smile played on his lips. "No matter what title I hold, you'll always be my junior."
