Chapter 40 Who Said We Divorced?
The moment someone muttered "jail time," a wave of gasps swept through the office.
"You're lying!" I snapped, my heart racing.
I couldn't fathom it—how could someone like Dominic Hawthorne lower himself to visit our insignificant company?
Before I could react, warmth settled on my shoulder.
Then Luke Jordan spoke, calm and collected: "I'm the one chasing after Liddy. And that project—we already settled it, didn't we? Is President Hawthorne here for something else?"
With a few effortless words, he brushed the matter aside.
But what he was doing—publicly claiming me like this—if I didn't resist, would that mean I accepted it?
Yet if I pulled away, Luke would be humiliated.
As I hesitated, Dominic stepped forward, stopping right before me. "I'm here for my wife."
A thunderclap rang in my skull.
The words shattered the air.
Whispers erupted around us.
I felt Luke's hand on my shoulder loosen—just slightly—as if even he wavered.
"Dominic, what are you talking about? We're already divorced!"
