My chest tightened, and I blurted out, "Did someone die?"
"No… it's just that all the lights went out," Conrad replied.
I let out a sigh of relief. It couldn't be anything too serious if no one had died. I turned to see the city lights stretching across the skyline outside the window.
"So, the lights just went out for no reason?" I asked.
"Yeah. Everything went dark all of a sudden. The technicians and maintenance crew checked everything. There's no power outage, the circuits are fine, and the equipment's working. But somehow, the lights just... disappeared."
Conrad's explanation left me confused. I didn't know much about lighting. Brandon had taken care of all the design and programming from the beginning. I wished he were here, but wishing wouldn't change anything.
"Are all the lights totally off?" I asked as I leaned down to put on my shoes.
