Callie’s sleep was restless, waking her several times throughout the night. By morning, her complexion looked poor, though her presence remained as poised as ever.
“You’re up early, Miss. The old gentleman just went out for his morning run, and Madam hasn’t woken yet,” Jade said, pleasantly surprised.
Callie, pulling out a chair and sitting down, raised an eyebrow. “Morning run?”
The phrase felt oddly mismatched with Ahmad. His health had always been fragile, and he was often in and out of hospitals. How could he have the energy for morning runs?
Noticing her confusion, Jade explained, “Yes, the old gentleman has kept this habit for a while now. Says it’s for staying healthy.”
It must have been a routine he’d only developed in recent years.
