Callie returned to the house, only to unexpectedly encounter Isaac in the yard.
He leaned against the magnolia tree, idly playing with his phone. Hearing footsteps, he looked up sharply.
A blunt remark followed: “You’ve got the nerve to come back.”
Callie tilted her head slightly and moved closer, step by step. “Leave. This is my house.”
Her words carried an air of authority, and Isaac instantly felt the threat. His entire body grew tense. “Yours? I’ve lived here for over twenty years. Who even are you?”
Callie, now visibly impatient, retorted, “When I lived here, you didn’t even exist.”
Isaac couldn’t hold back. He lunged, gripping her throat tightly, his teeth clenched in fury. “Stay here, and I’ll show you what it means to deal with a local!”
Callie winced from the pain but refused to show it. Instead, she smiled. “Isaac, you haven’t changed one bit in the past two years.”
