Seeing Enzo in the doorway, gun aimed at Wade, hit me like a wave of whiplash.
Relief, terror, and a sickening sense of dread all crashed together.
"I should have put you down the day I found out about you," Enzo said, his voice cold as winter steel.
Wade didn't even flinch. A slow, ugly smile spread across his face.
"Right on schedule," he said, his tone conversational. "Your daughter's panic button works like a charm."
My eyes darted between them.
I had managed to trigger the emergency alert on the phone Enzo gave me before Wade took it.
I was counting on it buying us time, but I never thought Enzo would get here this fast.
The man holding my arm dug his fingers in deeper.
I winced, trying to pull away, but his grip was a vise.
Wade's gaze slid to me, that terrible smile still in place. "Good performance. Pity it's all for nothing."
Another gunshot cracked, this one hitting the concrete inches from my feet.
I screamed as debris sprayed upward.
"What do you want?" Enzo demanded
