The morning sun cut through our bedroom curtains, painting the rumpled sheets in sharp stripes of gold.
I blinked awake, the unsettled feeling from last night's dream still wrapped around me like a cold towel.
My phone was right where I'd left it on the nightstand. My fingers fumbled a little as I grabbed it, the dream's chill still in my bones.
There it was a text from Noah. My shoulders dropped with a relief so sudden it felt like a punch.
[ Morning, Sil. All good here. Heading out of town for a few weeks. Need some air, some space to think. Don't worry about me. ]
I read it twice. In the back of my mind, my wolf, Keal, let out a low, uneasy whine.
The words should have been a comfort, but they just… sat there, all wrong.
