Chapter 14: Distance Is Not Always A Barrier
The sun was setting on a tranquil Friday evening when Jason walked into our apartment, his face a mixture of excitement and apprehension. I was in the kitchen, preparing dinner, when I saw him standing at the doorway, his eyes twinkling with an emotion I couldn't quite decipher.
"Hey, Jason. How was your day?" I asked, setting down the knife and wiping my hands on a towel.
He took a deep breath and walked over to me, his hands finding mine. "Lily, there's something I need to talk to you about."
I felt a flutter of nerves in my stomach. "What is it?"
"I got a job offer today," he said, his voice tinged with excitement. "It's in the neighborhood where I was born."
My heart skipped a beat. I knew how much that place meant to him, how many memories it held. "That's amazing, Jason! What kind of job?"
"It's a position as a forensic accountant," he explained, his eyes lighting up. "It's what I've always wanted to do. I'll be working on some really interesting cases, using my skills to u
