Richard’s words hung in the air as he witnessed four police officers push their way past the protesting servant, faces grim under their peaked caps.
A bead of sweat trickled down his temple.
‘Richard Griffith?’ the lead officer barked.
He flashed his badge and then held out a subpoena. ‘We need you to come with us.’
Leslie had gone mute, her face drained of its usual Botox-tinted colour.
Richard gripped his phone tightly, his voice strained. ‘I need to call my lawyer.’
The officer shrugged. ‘You can do it down at the station.’
