“Vivienne, let’s go back,” Gabriella called out as she appeared from the room, holding a blanket and clothes. But Olivia had already left.
Olivia had seen the agony on my face. With a sense of triumph, having achieved her goal, she left, her expression smug with satisfaction.
I, on the other hand, stayed rooted where I was, fists clenched, lost in a heavy silence.
Gabriella, noticing my lack of response, called my name again. “Mrs. Hawthorne?”
I snapped out of my daze, exhaling deeply, and nodded. “Mm, let’s go back.”
Gabriella glanced at me, sensing something was off. It was as though I had changed somehow.
Back at the villa, Gabriella tried to help me upstairs, but I declined. Instead, I sank into the sofa and said, “I’ll wait for Alexander to return.”
Gabriella nodded, sensing there was nothing more to say, and went on with her tasks.
Around three in the afternoon, a black car pulled into the villa grounds.
Alexander switched off the engine, leaned back in his seat
