Vivienne’s POV
I looked at Alexander coldly, as though I had just heard a bad joke. "Didn’t you say you were going to set me free? Pop-Pop is gone, and we’re already divorced. Why are you still pretending like this?"
A flash of pain crossed Alexander’s eyes, as if he hadn’t expected me to say this.
I truly no longer trusted him.
"I regret it, Vivienne," he said, his voice low. "I shouldn’t have let you go. You’re right—Pop-Pop is gone, so why should I keep pretending? Vivienne, whether you believe it or not, I really do care about you. I don’t want to divorce you."
He’d said this before—that he cared about me. But when I asked him when he started feeling that way, he couldn’t answer.
