“Do you have to go with him?” I asked quietly, my voice barely above a whisper as Logan turned back toward me.
Logan offered a soft smile, the kind that tried to reassure but didn’t quite reach his eyes. “It’s nothing serious. Just a quick conversation. I’ll be back soon.”
I opened my mouth, wanting to ask more, to say I didn’t like the way that man had looked at him. But Logan gave me a subtle look. A don’t-worry look.
I swallowed my words and nodded slowly. “Okay.”
He leaned in, voice lower now. “If anything feels strange… text me. Right away.”
Then he was gone.
And I was alone.
I stood in a corner of the grand hall, surrounded by people who sparkled under the golden light like they were born to belong here. My purse felt too tight in my hands. My dress, once something I’d loved, now felt too bold, too bright.
I didn't know where to go.
