Xavier's voice startled the mother and daughter.
"Where did you come from?" Abigail asked, then realized, "Oh, right, you're right next door to me."
"I wanted to talk to you."
Yvonne pointed to herself. "So, I'm the third wheel now?"
The siblings fell silent.
Yvonne stood up. "Alright then. You two chat. I'll go for a walk and check on your father while I'm at it."
"She was in a car accident that injured her arm and caused her to lose all sensation. She used to be a professional violinist, but after the accident, she fell into a deep depression."
Abigail listened, frowning. "How long ago was this? If it's been too long, I can't make any promises. And I don't know the extent of the nerve damage."
"Five years. As long as they've been living here." He added, "To be exact, five years and two months."
His voice was flat, as if he were describing something completely unimportant, but his expression showed hints of deep sadness and pain.
