Jabco watched her carefully while he also eat, saying nothing.
After a few bites, she put the spoon down.
“That’s enough,” she said.
He didn’t argue.
“Okay,” he said. “That’s fine.”
He stood up and took her plate away, like it was the most natural thing in the world.
As he moved around the kitchen, Riyana watched him quietly.
Her heart was full of confusion.
When he came back, he didn’t sit immediately.
Instead, he stood beside her chair and rested a hand lightly on her shoulder.
“You’re tired,” he said softly. “You should rest now"
She nodded.
Jabco’s phone suddenly started ringing on the table, the sharp sound cutting through the quiet of the room.
The night had been calm until that moment, almost too calm, the kind of silence that made every little sound feel louder than it should.
“You go to bed. I’ll take this call,” Jabco said casually, but there was a rush in his
movement that did not match his calm tone.
Riyana nodded, though her eyes followed him without meaning to.
