Chapter 27
OLIVIA'S POV
"I didn't do anything!" I said hurriedly, my voice trembling with frustration. "She's lying—she knocked over the tray herself!"
I turned to Dominic, desperate for him to see the truth for once.
"This time, you have to believe me. I would never go near a hot utensil right after recovering from my previous wounds. I would not harm my child, regardless of what anyone thinks of me," I said with conviction.
A beat of silence passed, heavy and suffocating.
"So, you're going to blame me again for something she did, right? Okay, go on. Do whatever you want. But you should understand one thing, Dominic: I would never do something that could hurt my child. I came here looking for snacks to help with my nausea. I didn't need to knock some utensils over just to take a few."
I guessed my last conviction and my last statement did the trick.
For the first time, he hesitated.
It was brief—so brief that if I hadn't watched him so closely, I might've missed it.
My heart clenched painfully.
