Elaine really couldn't say no to Mrs. Evans' kindness, so she gave in. Mrs. Thompson saw it and quickly helped her put the stuff away.
"If you're out, come get more from me anytime," Mrs. Evans smiled. Then realizing she might've said too much, she quickly added, "No, no, I'll have Lucas bring it over to you."
"You really don't have to go through so much trouble," Elaine said, feeling a little uncomfortable with how polite Mrs. Evans had suddenly become. Honestly, she preferred the old version—arrogant and impossible to deal with.
"This isn't trouble, it's the least I can do," Mrs. Evans replied, her tone unusually sincere.
Elaine glanced at Marcus, silently begging for help. But Marcus clearly wanted no part of it and just bailed like it was none of his business.
Mrs. Evans wasn't giving up either. "How about this—if you're still worried, let Lucas stay and take care of Oliver."
"That's really not necessary," Elaine said, rejecting the idea flat-out.
