Ethan hadn't expected Joseph to be in such a mess. He figured the guy just hadn't had food or water, but judging from how rough he looked, it seemed like he'd been through hell.
"Mr. Grant, don't get the wrong idea. Other than the no food and water thing, we didn't lay a finger on your son," Ethan said upfront, trying to clear the air before Edward jumped to conclusions.
Edward put on a casual front. "You might as well have roughed him up. Could've helped blow off some steam for Mrs. Sinclair."
Hearing that, Joseph couldn't take it anymore. "Dad! How can you take their side like that?!"
"Shut up!" Edward snapped at him, his voice harsh.
Joseph got even more emotional, practically whining, "Dad, please take me home. If you don't come soon, you'll never see me again."
Edward's expression darkened, but he didn't let it show too much. He finally laid his cards on the table. "Alright then. We're out of the Brindleford Village project. Take it as a gesture of goodwill to Mr. and Mrs. Sinclai
