Chapter 59
The only reason Elaine was standing outside Marcus's room was because she wanted to grab a few of her things.
Like her pillow, her quilt, and her toiletries.
Earlier this morning, Mrs. Thompson had moved all her stuff into Marcus's room without even hesitating. Elaine had tried to ask for another set, but Mrs. Thompson looked super awkward and told her to go talk to Marcus directly.
That's how she ended up here—and how she accidentally overheard his phone call.
As Marcus walked back into the room, he casually said, "We're going home for dinner this weekend."
Elaine paused on the word "home," not totally sure what he meant.
Marcus explained a bit more patiently, "To see my parents."
"That's kind of sudden, isn't it?" Elaine blinked in surprise.
Marcus frowned slightly. That reaction seemed too fake. "Didn't you always say you wanted to meet them?"
"Uh... yeah, totally," she lied with a forced smile.
