Chapter 20
Though a little annoyed at Eleanor's pushy methods, Emily had no choice but to give in when she saw Joshua waving to her from across the street. In the end, she walked over.
Fireworks weren't banned in Ashenport, so the New Year's atmosphere was alive and buzzing.
The streets were crowded with friends walking arm in arm, ladies snapping pictures for each other, and couples strolling hand in hand.
Vendors pushed carts along the road, and even a little girl was seen with a basket on her back, selling flowers.
"Would you like some flowers, sir?" The little girl tugged at Joshua's sleeve and rummaged through her basket. Then, she found a bouquet of tulips and held it up to him.
"Here's a bouquet of tulips. They suit her so well!"
He'd been about to wave her off, but hearing her last words, his outstretched hand paused mid-air. "Alright, I'll take one."
Beaming, the little girl handed him the flowers and chirped. "Happy New Year! May your love story be helluva long and extra cute!"
