Chapter 111 The Right Call
At the last possible second, a solid arm locked around Lila's waist, pulling her back from the edge of the stairs and setting her on her feet. 
It was then that she caught a clean, familiar scent she knew by heart.
Lila's heart skipped a beat. She spun around, still shaken.
It was Rhett. What was he doing here?
He didn't let go until he was sure she was okay. A storm crossed his otherwise calm face.
Rhett stepped past Lila and stared into the room at Jason and Mary, still fuming. The intensity rolling off him made it hard to breathe.
He'd heard that Lila had gone out alone to recruit a clinical-trial candidate and couldn't shake the concern he felt, so he'd followed her. 
He'd barely arrived in the hall when he saw her shoved toward the stairs.
"What do you think you're doing?" Rhett asked, his voice carrying the easy authority of a man who'd been in charge for years, and the reception room went cold.
