Chapter 1479
“Mr. Valor just wants to better protect his wife,” explained Connor.
Serenity snapped back, “Are you protecting me or are you just monitoring me?”
Connor fell silent immediately. After all, Mr. Valor had deliberately instructed him to keep Walter’s incident a secret from Serenity since she was about to give birth.”
Serenity went quiet as well. She lowered her head and stared at her bulging belly.
When they arrived at the hospital, Serenity immediately met up with Lisa at her ward. She seemed to be in a good mental state, and it seemed that she was capable of taking care of herself now. After she was discharged, given some time to recover, Serenity was sure that she would return to her old self in no time.
“You finally came, Serenity!” greeted Lisa. “Come! Grab a sit quickly! Now that you’re pregnant, you can’t be standing around all the time.”
Serenity found a seat and sat down before asking, “How are you doing? Has the doctor told you when you can be discharged from the hospital?”
“I’ll be discharged next week,” replied Lisa with a grin while stroking her bald head. Because of her head surgery, they had had to shave her head. Following her eventual discharge, she would have to wear a wig before her hair grew out.
She added, “Clara came to visit me yesterday too. She said she was discharged from the hospital and that she was lucky to have survived.”
“I’m glad the both of you are safe now,” said Serenity.
“Yeah. We’re both really lucky if you think about it,” sighed Lisa. “By the way, I was surprised when I heard the true culprit in your case turned out to be Jenny Hall. We all thought it was Yuri who did it, but I never thought Jenny managed to hide from a person like Jackson.”
“Well, she didn’t,” replied Serenity.
“Huh?” Lisa couldn’t believe her ears. “What do you mean? She didn’t hide from him?”
Serenity remained silent for a moment before she started explaining, “From the beginning, he always knew the true culprit was Jenny Hall.”
Lisa gasped as her face was filled with shock. How could this be?! If Jackson knew from the start that Jenny was the culprit, then didn’t that mean… Lisa couldn’t bring herself to piece together the puzzle.
“From the start, he already knew who the real murderer was, but he just chose to stand by and watch,” said Serenity with a bitter smile. “Back then, didn’t you look for him to clarify that I was being wrongly accused? Since… he already knew that the outcome would have been the same.”
Lisa observed her friend’s reaction and felt saddened. She knew how deeply her friend was in love with Jackson. Just when she thought her friend was finally in a happy relationship, this thing comes up?!
“Then… what do you plan to do?” asked Lisa.
“I don’t know. For the time being, I can’t bring myself to see him. As in other situations, I need some time to calm down before we settle it,” replied Serenity.
“No matter what you do, I’ll stand by your side!” said Lisa. “But still, you need to remember that it’s not easy for a couple to stick together. You and him finally got married and are expecting children. I can see that Jackson’s feelings for you are true. It’s hard to come across another person like him in your lifetime.”
Hearing her friend go silent, Lisa quickly added, “I’m not speaking on Jackson’s behalf. I understand how hard it was when you were in prison, but, I just… just…”
Lisa spoke with a nasal voice as if she was on the verge of tearing up, “I just think that being able to live with a person you love is… a very difficult thing, so… don’t give up so easily. Like me and Terry, even though we loved each other very much, it’s a shame that we separated so easily.”
