“I don’t know what to say,” Barry’ deep voice broke through his wandering thoughts. “I’m flattered of course, but you do know I’m already engaged.”
Mason raised his eyes to look at his friend, puzzled, and then looked down at the box in his hand and smiled.
“Don’t be a fuckwit,” Mason said conversationally. “As if I’d ask you to marry me.”
Barry grinned as he leaned back in his chair and played with a pen between his fingers.
“So, you’re going to ask Lisa to marry you?”
Mason exhaled and snapped the lid of the ring box closed, placing it on the edge of the desk and taking his time to make sure the edges lined up.
“I don’t know,” he replied with a sigh. “It seemed like a good idea when I was in the jewelry store, but now I’m wondering what my motivation was.”
“What does that mean?”
“Lisa and I had a fight last night—”
“And you think proposing to her will make it right?” Mason could tell
