"Stay behind, Trevor," Grandpa said after Celine and Chairman Holden left. "I need to talk to you."
"I have to be on my way. It's late," I replied, not meeting his gaze.
Grandpa was silent for a few minutes as he watched me.
I looked up at him when the silence stretched unbearably, itching to leave.
"Don't you think you're being unwise?"
"I've always been unwise," I returned, shrugging noncommittally.
"Do you think I'm joking?" Grandpa bristled.
"I know you're not."
Grandpa swallowed, his throat bobbing.
"Come back home," he said.
"You don't need me here," I replied.
"This isn't about needing you. It's about the family's prestige. How do you expect to fend for yourself?"
"I don't need your money. I will find my own way."
"You want to be a disappointment every step of the way. I won't allow you," Grandpa said, tweaking a finger in my direction.
"Your keys and your card are on the drawer in your room. I told James to leave them there. Go take them back and lea
