Chapter 2868
As Xavia held her breath, she heard Ian add, “So… After running an even more thorough search, we found out that one of the suspects also had a limp sister… Upon learning more about her, we found that she had a voice as hoarse as a man’s, and she also had an unregistered daughter, so… It all kind of adds up. We’re going to confirm it tonight.”
“L-let me come along!” replied Xavia… but before she could even take a step forward, she suddenly remembered Zayne’s words.
This prompted her to purse her lips before looking at Zayne and asking, “…Is it safe for me to leave since Von’s asleep? Don’t worry, I’ll be back by morning.”
“…I really can’t say for sure, and I think you should prioritize staying by his side…”
Upon hearing that, Xavia’s gaze instantly fell. Sure, she wanted Zivon to be safe, but at the same time… She really wanted to see her baby again.
As she remained silent, Ian, who had deduced that Zivon was in a situation that required Xavia to be by his side, eventually replied, “…I should clarify that we don’t actually know whether the child is Fabiola yet, so… Maybe you should sit this one out until we confirm that it’s her. Don’t worry, if you really want to rescue her yourself, then we’ll just wait for you and Zivon to come over in the morning. How’s that?”
Knowing that that was probably for the best, Xavia ultimately said, “…Yeah, let’s go with that. Good luck!”
With that, she hung up and began praying that the child truly was Fabiola… and at the same time, she really hoped that her captors had been kind to her child… That girl had suffered enough…
Looking at the anxious woman, Zayne couldn’t help but say, “…Hey, you should get some rest too… We still have a lot of testing to do when Zivon wakes up, you know…?”
Knowing that Zayne was only looking out for her, Xavia nodded, prompting Zayne and the other doctors to leave the room… But sadly, no matter how much she tried, she simply couldn’t sleep that night… Only God knew how excruciating the wait was for her as she constantly checked on her phone throughout the night…
Moving back to the Frankston brothers, they silently approached the village on a simple boat… It was the only mode of transportation that they could take without attracting too much attention. They made sure to hire a personal boatsman too since they didn’t want any of the local fishermen spreading news about their arrival to the others…
After all, though stereotypical, small villages like these were usually the hubs of human trafficking… And as long as that chance remained, they couldn’t afford to make any mistakes.
Once close enough to the island, Ian looked at his brothers… and after all three of them nodded, they began swimming in the chilly winter waters toward land…
Though cold, they swam on… and eventually, they made their way to the prime suspect’s home. It was a shabby place, and it was also completely dark… What’s more, the only clothes on the clothesline fit for a child seemed to be made for boys… Had they made a wrong call?
Feeling slightly worried, Ian shook his head before pointing upward… and soon enough, James and Jacob were on the roof.
After taking deep breaths, James and Jacob quickly began using special tools to simulate the sounds of lightning and thunder… and as the ‘lightning’ flashed, they were able to catch glimpses of the inside of the house!
Ian made sure to pay close attention whenever the flaps of the curtains swayed… and in the end, he was able to make out the silhouettes of two people lying on a bed…!
