Natalie had heard that Timothy came from a humble family. He was diligent, frugal, and had built his path through sheer perseverance.
To ensure he was comfortable, Natalie chose a modest eatery near campus. The place was shabby, but it was known for good food.
"How are you adjusting to life here?" Whenever Timothy spoke, his gaze lingered on her, deliberate yet unspoken. Something hidden flickered in his eyes, leaving Natalie feeling slightly at a loss.
Her cheeks warmed as she nodded. "I'm doing okay."
"If there's anything you don't understand, you can ask me. I mean anything and not just about the program," he offered.
"That would be imposing," Natalie replied.
"No, it wouldn't if it's you."

For several days, Timothy waited for her to finish her classes and walked her to the laboratory. Their time together was easy and natural. Rumors began to spread. People asked Natalie whether they were a couple. Natalie shook her head and explained, "We're just colleagues for now."
