Chapter 89
Amelia Johnson gave Ethan Collins a grin, her tone playful. “Well, I’m just a clueless country girl who’s never seen much of the world. Isn’t that why I’m tagging along with you guys today?”
Her smile was oddly soothing, and Ethan's mood noticeably lifted — weird, but kind of sweet.
Sabrina Johnson instantly caught the shift in Ethan’s expression and bit her lower lip. “Ethan, can you come up on stage with me to accept the award?”
Amelia looked disappointed. “Wait, why him? What about me?”
“Come on, sis. This is a big moment for me. I don’t want you ruining it,” Sabrina said, her tone laced with frustration. Truth was, she never intended to bring Amelia up there; she’d only mentioned it earlier to flex a little in front of her.
Amelia was just too stunning — Sabrina didn’t want her stealing the spotlight.
“But I want to go.” Amelia tugged on Ethan’s arm and pleaded, “Ethan, talk to her for me, will you? I promise I won’t say a word. I’ll just stand quietly.”
Ethan frowned. “Let go.”
