Chapter 36

Robert finally decided to reveal the culprit who’d orchestrated everything - “It was Mistress Priscilla.” Aidan frowned at this name - Priscilla Nelson? Again? “We didn’t find anything off about the nurse’s bank account initially as Mistress Priscilla hadn’t transferred the money directly to her - upon further investigation, we found that she’d instead transferred it to the nurse’s boyfriend’s bank account.” Aidan was at an absolute loss for words at the revelation - he did not utter a single word and sat silently for a long time. After a while, Robert decided to break the silence - “Second Young Master, we still have the nurse in our hands.” “Don’t kill her - let her live, but torture her and make her suffer for what she’d done. That’ll be far worse than simply killing her off just like that.” Aidan replied in an absolutely cold and emotionless voice. “Yes, Second Young Master.” Robert acknowledged. “Also,” Aidan started as he raised his head to look at Robert, “Call Caleb Leslie and tell him to beat Frank up - tell him that his wife is ignorant and idiotic and that as the eldest son-in-law of the Nelson Family, he deserves to be punished on behalf of her. As for my aunt, you don’t have to do anything - I’ll deal with her myself.” “Yes, Second Young Master,” Robert affirmed once more before turning to leave - as he walked away, he couldn’t help but feel a slight and relieved smile creep onto his face. He was glad that Eliana was alright. … Eliana finally awoke on the third day after the operation - her eyes fluttered open slowly but surely as she stirred. She squinted slightly as she tried to get used to and adjust accordingly to the light in the room - she took in the stark white ceiling above her, along with the slight mist floating about the air from the humidifier on the bedside table. Eliana couldn’t help but furrow her brows as she realized just where she was - I’m in a hospital room...what? You’ve got to be kidding me - are you telling me right now that I didn’t end up dying after all? I can’t believe that I used to feel as though I was on the verge of death from a mere fever back in the days when I had been a spoilt and pampered rich girl - little did I think that I would survive such a risky and complicated procedure, especially considering the current state of my health… God really loves messing with me, doesn’t he? “Ellie? Are you awake?” A gentle and warm voice momentarily interrupted Eliana’s thoughts - she turned and was surprised to see Aidan’s aunt, Charlotte Nelson, who was a sophisticated but kind and humble lady. She was also the only one who’d visited Eliana during the two years when she’d been locked up in prison - alas, due to Eliana’s poor health, there were times in which she’d missed being able to see her aunt. Eliana couldn’t help but feel her eyes well up with tears at the sight of her dear aunt - after all, it’d been two years since she’d last saw her. “Auntie…” Eliana called out in a slightly hoarse and weak voice. Charlotte Nelson quickly pressed the bell on the bedside for assistance before taking hold of Eliana’s hands. “Ellie, thank goodness, you’re finally awake - do you know that you’ve been in a coma for two days now?” A coma? Really? Huh...it all just feels like a long dream...a very, very long dream...I dreamt...about Aidan...he was sweet...yet, also dangerous...he kissed me, coaxing me encouragingly to wake up...before brutally threatening me with the lives of my father and brother… I was afraid the whole time - I feared that he would actually do something to them. I couldn’t let my mind rest - I was distressed and struggling the entire time… Just then, the door swung open to reveal Aidan and Travis - the former couldn’t help but feel as though a huge load had been lifted off his chest at the sight of Eliana awake. Just the day before, Travis had told him that Eliana had yet to come out of danger even though she’d survived the procedure and that she would only do so should she come to...things had been looking rather grim. In just three days, Eliana had to be resuscitated twice - alas, here was now, conscious and aware of what was happening around her… Just a few minutes ago, Travis had sighed and reluctantly informed Aidan that should Eliana still remain unconscious, the chances of her coming to would be extremely slim...alas, here she was now, wide awake and alright… Travis stepped forward to examine Eliana - after he was done, he put down his stethoscope and said softly to the latter, “Congratulations, Miss Harvey - you’d narrowly escaped death.” Alas, Eliana did not crack a smile at Travis’ words - she didn’t want to have managed to narrowly escape death. She didn’t want to live. I would rather have died than live to see Aidan’s face again...Eliana couldn’t help but think to herself bitterly. Charlotte turned to Aidan and chided coldly, “Aidan, you’ve really gone too far this time - how could you treat poor, sweet Eliana like this? She was in no condition to undergo such a risky and dangerous procedure in the first place!” Aidan suppressed his true emotions as he retorted coldly, “Auntie, my relationship with Eliana is none of your business.” “Yes, it is - that’s why I’m here today. I’m here to take Eliana back to my home to recuperate - she may return to you as soon as she recovers.” “I won’t stop you if she wants to go with you,” Aidan shrugged, “After all, someone has to do the job…”
