Chapter 38
Aidan couldn’t believe the audacity of Eliana - so the first thing that she wants to do after just narrowly escaping death is to divorce me, huh?
Aidan was so infuriated that he couldn’t help but reach out to grab at Eliana’s throat - however, he held himself back upon realizing that she had an oxygen tube and various tubes running all over her body.
“Do you really think that you can escape just by divorcing me?” Aidan sneered, “Eliana, oh, Eliana, just give it up - you’ll never be able to escape by grasp.”
“I didn’t say that I want to escape,” Eliana replied, “I will accept whatever sort of torment and suffering that you wish to inflict on me for the sake of my family - the only thing that I cannot accept is to remain as you, Aidan Nelson’s, wife.”
“Oh? Is that so?” Aidan snorted, “Fine - since you can’t accept it, I’ll force you to accept it. I’ll never let you have your way.” Eliana couldn’t believe her ears - “Aidan…” she murmured weakly, “...we signed an agreement. We agreed on this a long time ago…”
“Yes, that’s true - but the agreement doesn’t say that I would agree to release your father and to divorce you. Eliana, oh Eliana - you should’ve known better than to try and negotiate with a businessman like me. What makes you think that you’d gotten the upper hand from signing that piece of paper alone?” Aidan scoffed before storming out of the room.
Eliana could do nothing but watch on helplessly as Aidan left - she couldn’t believe just how despicable and treacherous of a person he was. He’d never been like this in the past.
Well, I guess it’s clear that I never knew the real him right from the beginning…
…
Aidan did not visit Eliana for the next two weeks.
Eliana had heard from Robert that Laura’s surgery had been successful - the latter had also informed her that it was Priscilla who’d bribed the nurse to send the text message and set her up. Eliana felt devastated upon learning this - Aidan didn’t even try to apologize after knowing that he’d wronged me when I’d woken up…
“Miss Harvey, please don’t be sad - Second Young Master had personally dealt with this matter and served you justice,” Robert reassured Eliana.
“It’s alright - I’m not sad. Why would I be sad over someone like him?” Eliana smiled bitterly. “Besides, there will never be justice so long as Laura and I are both alive - Aidan would always choose her over me. He’ll always be against me no matter what - it doesn’t matter.”
Robert didn’t know what to say in response.
…
At this exact moment, Laura was on a phone call in her hospital war. “It’s me, Laura,” she said, “My subordinates informed me that Bryan Harvey was sent out of Blanchard Garden this morning - he knows too much about me. We can’t risk keeping him around and letting him free just like that. We have to take action against him.”
“Don’t worry, Miss Collins - it’ll be a piece of cake…” the person on the other end of the line drawled. “You didn’t leave any loose ends at Priscilla’s place, did you?” Laura further questioned. “Relax - that idiotic woman will never be able to figure out just who was the one who’d set her up.”
Laura smirked, “You’re really a genius for coming with the idea of getting her husband to plant the bug in her ear when they went to bed at night - she’s really such a gullible woman. Ah, what a blessing it is that things always seem to be working in my favor…”
…
Eliana ran into Aidan along the corridor on the day that she was discharged from the hospital; of course, she was not foolish enough to believe that the latter had come especially to pick her up.
She knew that Laura was to be discharged on this day as well - Aidan was definitely here to fetch the latter instead of her.
Speaking of Laura, it’s been a month since I last saw her...all that I’ve heard about her is that she’s been pretty well taken care of over the past few weeks...well, good for her, I guess…
Just then, Laura walked in and spotted Eliana - she immediately went over to the latter’s side and took her hand in hers, an appreciative smile etched on her face. “Ellie, thank God you’re alright,” she chimed in relief, “You look well - thank goodness for that.”
Eliana shrugged her off haughtily as she scowled, “Laura, even though it was indeed I who’d saved your life, I don’t want any of your gratitude - you’d better stay as far away from me as possible.”
Aidan couldn’t help but fume at this - How dare she act like this? She knows well how her acting like this provokes me and gets me all worked up...she’s doing this on purpose! What a scheming and treacherous woman!
Aidan scorned, “Eliana, oh, Eliana - I wouldn’t have let Laura have your filthy liver had it not been for what your hooligan brother had done…”
